Transfer Students
The Office of Disability Services works with many students who
have transferred to UNC Charlotte from other educational institutions. Our
office invites students considering UNC Charlotte to explore the services our
office provides for students living with disabilities.
Transfer students who are seeking accommodations for a
documented disability must complete the following steps:
1. Submit documentation.
Every college and university has their own process regarding disability
documentation and verification.
Our office is unable to accept letters from other colleges and universities as
valid documentation. Transfer students must submit current documentation from
their treating physician or psychologist using the UNC Charlotte Office of
Disability Forms.
Documentation forms are divided into varying disability
categories and are to be completed by a physician or psychologist. Please visit
the
documentation page to access the required forms
Documentation for a specific learning disability requires
submission of a “current” psycho educational evaluation completed by a licensed
psychologist.
2. A counselor will review the documentation,
and transfer students will receive a letter indicating their eligibility.
3. If approved for services, schedule an appointment to
meet with one of our counselors. Appointments are made by calling our main line:
704-687-4355.
This meeting usually lasts an hour and will be a time for the counselor and the
student to discuss the documented disability and appropriate accommodations. At
the end of this meeting the student will be provided with letters of
accommodation for registered classes.
4. Meet with your professors at the beginning of the
course to provide them with the letter of accommodation and to further discuss
accommodations.
If any issues or questions arise, please contact our office
for further assistance. We are here to support your academic goals and to ensure
accessibility!
All disability related information is confidential. No
information regarding your disability or accommodations is ever indicated on
transcripts.
