Volunteer Opportunities
There are several ways to
volunteer for the Office of Disability Services.
Be a VOLUNTEER NOTE
TAKER:
Our volunteer note taking program is the most popular and most rewarding. For
more information please visit our
Note Taking web page. Volunteers earn 45 hours of community service
for each course in which they volunteer notes for a registered student. These
hours can be used to meet certain club or university requirements. Experience as
a volunteer note taker can also be a great resume' builder!
Volunteers are requested at
the beginning of each semester.
Other volunteer opportunities arise throughout the academic
year. For more information please
contact our office.
Building Connections
This is a group that meets once a week for three weeks
to help you explore building connections with others. Topics discussed include
social perceptions, communication, and self awareness. The goal of the group is
to help you gain and/or improve skills to help you have a satisfying social
experience in college and beyond. Please let us know if you are interested in
this unique opportunity.
Career Exploration
This presentation was designed for students who are not
sure what their interests are and how to translate those interests into a career
path. In other words, if you have no idea or just a general idea of what you
want to do, that’s okay; this is the presentation for you! We will also discuss
issues such as your interests, values, and self-concept which are so important
to finding a career path that is rewarding. This workshop will be presented
during the fall semester.
Job Search Skills
There IS life after college…are you prepared? I am sure
you have thought about finding that perfect job once you have graduated, or even
before. The process of getting your foot in the door can be very intimidating.
This workshop is designed to help you plan for an effective job search. You will
learn how to organize a pro-active search and consider issues such as how your
disability plays a role in the process and how to present your strengths to a
potential employer. This workshop will be held during the spring semester.
Work Force Recruitment
Once a year, we are fortunate to have a recruiter
from the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) interview eligible students. The
purpose of the program is to refer students with disabilities for employment at
federal and private sector worksites throughout the U.S. Contact our office if
you are interested in this great opportunity.
Students with Disabilities Transitioning into Higher Education
