Note Taking Services - Information for Faculty
The Office of Disability Services provides note taking services to qualified students. The note
taking service uses volunteer note takers who are concurrently taking the class.
If provided this accommodation, the student is to deliver a Note Taker Request
form to each instructor for which a volunteer is needed.
When presented with this form, faculty should make the following announcement
to the class as soon as possible:
Disability Services needs a volunteer note taker in this class to take
notes for a student with a disability. If you are interested, please see me
after class. Notes are copied in the Disability Services Office at no cost to
the note taker. Volunteer services can be listed on a resume or job
applications, as employers are interested in people who volunteer in their
community.
There might be several students in your class needing note taking services.
Please make an announcement each time you are presented with a note taker
request form to ensure an adequate number of volunteers. Also, to ensure that
students receive approved accommodations, the request for a volunteer should be
sought only when the student presents the request form from the DS office.
Confidentiality of the student’s disability status is required by law. The
student requesting a volunteer note taker should never be identified, except at
the student’s discretion. Each student registered with the DS office is assigned
a number which is the only information disclosed to the volunteer note taker.
If questions or concerns arise, please contact our office at 687-4355.
